About the Temple

Clothes Donation Program

While the temple provides the venue and the opportunity to listen to the Dharma and to study the Buddha’s teachings through Dharma services, seminars, workshops, special observances and special events, it also aims to provide assistance for the welfare of the community beyond the circle of the Sangha. As the central focus of the community, the temple and its ministers and members have a responsibility to society at large.

To that end, the temple supports a Clothes Donation program: A wooden box is stationed in the Social Hall as a depository for clothing to be taken to homeless shelters, as well as food for the food pantry.

Some items that are needed are warm coats, new socks, gloves, mittens, hats and blankets. All donations are welcome. If the homeless shelters cannot use something that has been donated, it will be given instead to other local charities.

As part of our efforts to help clothe the homeless, members also volunteer to knit or crochet hats, scarves and gloves for the homeless in time for winter. Our goal every fall is to provide at least 50 complete sets of hats, gloves and scarves to the local homeless.

If you would like to donate or volunteer to crochet or knit, please contact us at office@mbtchicago.org or call 312.943.7801. Thank you for your generosity. The gift of Dana or generosity is the first wisdom virtue of Buddhism.
